THERMAL SURVEY

The thermal mapping service from Bluesky is an intelligent thermographic spatial information source for deriving property-level building heat-loss maps, used to identify poorly insulated buildings and "Beds in Sheds" illegal dwellings.

Bluesky operate a state-of-the-art Teledyne Thermal Sensor mounted in a specially adapted survey aircraft.  The sensor, unlike other thermal sensors has been specifically designed to be operated from an aircraft and to detect emissive heat from buildings, ground and vegetation.  During a survey over a city many hundreds of individual thermograms are recorded along with location information to allow easy processing and analysis.

Bluesky provide an end-to-end thermal mapping solution, offering a cost-effective airborne thermal survey service measuring building heat-loss levels across an entire city in just one evening.  Thermal Mapping can also be used in forestry studies to identify individual diseased or infested trees.

Using Bluesky’s innovative online portal, cross-referencing of airborne survey results against your organisations existing geographic, economic, demographic and environmental data can be undertaken, and findings summarised to produce a targeted output identifying properties that should be engaged for insulation grants, energy consumption advice and guidance on renewable and sustainable energy products and services.

ONLINE THERMAL PORTALS

Anchor 1

Bluesky’s web-based services can be used to assist energy and environment teams within your organisation measure energy usage trends at neighbourhood level, and report on National indicators 186 and 187 set by the Government. The portal can also be adapted to provide a public facing web-page, allowing effective community engagement and promotion of energy efficiency strategies.

Bluesky will provide a service to assemble, securely host, and manage both the thermal imagery and your chosen auxiliary datasets to enable clients and stakeholders across multiple offices to maximise the value of the web-mapping tool.

Flexible licensing can be provided to cover usage from a single-seat to full corporate level.

Information provided by Bluesky’s web-mapping service can include: -

  • Property level relative heat loss values derived from thermal survey supplied by Bluesky.

  • Geo-demographic data from the UK Census of Population.

  • BERR energy consumption data provided at Middle Super Output Area level.

  • Building classifications by type and land use (e.g. residential, commercial etc).

  • OS mapping including MasterMap®

  • Address Information - Local Land and Property Gazetteer

Results from the survey can be connected to addresses and energy consumption data to discover energy usage trends at neighbourhood levels, helping support energy strategies, local campaigns and responding to National Indicators.  They are also widely used to identify illegal dwellings (Beds in Sheds) in conjunction with Bluesky's LiDAR system. The easy-to-use thermal maps give you the confidence to pinpoint buildings, out-buildings and pipelines radiating excessive heat, enabling you to quickly and effectively target your problem areas. Bluesky's thermal surveys are conducted with state-of-the-art sensors under optimum conditions, in order to provide the most vivid and clear heat-loss results.

By using the Bluesky Thermal Mapping Web Portal (our organisation-wide web-based heat-loss mapping tool) organisations can easily analyse data from multiple sources and share the results more easily with colleagues, partners and members of the public. The portal is designed to help local authorities and utilities target their resources and efforts to improve energy efficiency.
